Orphans of Uganda: A School Fees Campaign Paid in Sats

Orphans of Uganda is a non‑profit organization in Bugiri, eastern Uganda, caring for 77 children. On 20 September 2026, it posted that 26 of its secondary school children could not return to class because fees had not been raised. The total needed: UGX 22,360,000, roughly $5,700. About Orphans of Uganda

The Orphans of Uganda Children Center is a non‑profit, non‑government children's home in Busolo Village, Bugiri District, in the Busoga region near the Uganda‑Kenya border. It was founded in 2009 by Lady Fatimah Kagoya and has been led since 2012 by Isma Byarugaba, who grew up as an orphan under her care.

The center looks after 77 children, 49 girls and 28 boys, with three volunteers. The children come from different backgrounds and faiths. The center does not yet own a finished permanent building. The children live in rented rooms while a long‑term home is being built on land already purchased.

The school fees campaign

By the second week of the new semester, some children still had not returned to school. The organization posted the breakdown: 26 secondary school children, UGX 860,000 each for tuition, books, pens, sanitary pads, transport, pocket money, and exam fees. Total: UGX 22,360,000. The post closed with the Lightning address and a direct ask to the Bitcoin community.

Primary school children at the same home also need exercise books, pens, shoes, and basic supplies. Their costs are lower per child, but without those items, they stay home too.

The Bitcoin connection

Orphans of Uganda accepts Bitcoin via Lightning at orphansofuganda@8333.mobi on Machankura. The donation page lists Bitcoin alongside mobile money and bank transfer. The organization's stated goals include "leveraging modern financial tools, including Bitcoin‑based support and global digital fundraising."

The organization is connected to Bitcoin Kampala, and is listed on African Bitcoiners as a Bitcoin community in Uganda. A Geyser campaign is also running for sats donations.
