AmityAge brought its Bitcoin Educators Academy to Africa for the first time in Lusaka, Zambia, from 2 to 4 October, with Bitcoin Zambia as its local partner. All 20 seats were booked, and the Human Rights Foundation's Bitcoin Development Fund paid for them.
What the Academy Teaches
The academy is a train‑the‑trainers course for people who already understand Bitcoin and want to teach it. Its sessions cover public speaking, explaining Bitcoin to newcomers, handling objections, building analogies and debunking common myths.
AmityAge has bases in Roatán, Honduras, and Bratislava, Slovakia. Co‑founder Dušan Matuška has described the goal as making Bitcoin accessible to 100 million people by training educators in every country.
The Lusaka Edition
The academy ran at Quantum Square office park in two tracks of 10, and AmityAge's event page says the seats went to local educators ready to grow Zambia's Bitcoin community. The same page describes Bitcoin Zambia as the country's first Bitcoin‑only community, with outreach to women and youth across Lusaka.
In its wrap‑up post, AmityAge called Lusaka the "first Bitcoin Educators Academy on African soil" and "a new continent, a new culture, and a room that gave us so much back." The graduates finished certified to teach Bitcoin in their own communities. AmityAge also thanked Trezor, which it calls a long‑term partner.
One graduate has already put the training to use. Simatende Paul, founder of the campus community BTC Campus Zambia, is heading on a four‑day expedition across Southern Province to test "how practically Bitcoin works for everyday purchases on the ground," as AmityAge put it.
A Week Later, Lagos
The academy moved on to Lagos the following week, from 8 to 10 October, with DigiOats as its local partner. It was the first edition in Nigeria. Bitcoin Africa Story founder Destiny Smart took part and wrote about what he learned on Day 1.
