My First Bitcoin Experience - Unique Graphic (Cohort 1)
My name is Unique, and I'm a graphic designer. I first learned about Bitcoin through the Bitcoin Africa Story (BAS) 1st Bitcoin Diploma Cohort.
I've learned so much about Bitcoin from the program, and I'm truly proud to have joined. One of the highlights was witnessing my first real Bitcoin transaction, right after the group live transactions we practiced during the cohort. It was EPIC!
Earning sats for My Graphic Design Skills
A few weeks after completing the program, I received my second‑ever sats, this time through my own skills.
A fellow cohort student needed a graphic designer for a small gig with his growing Bitcoin community, Bitcoin Sisonke, which he started right after the cohort.
Our mentor, Destiny Smart, referred him to me. I delivered the designs ahead of the deadline, and to my surprise, I received sats in my Blink wallet as payment, even though I wasn't expecting any compensation.
I immediately shouted in excitement! The sender asked why I was shouting, and I told him I'd just received sats in my wallet. He asked if it was my first time receiving payment in sats, and I said yes. He smiled and said, “You better get used to it!”
Moral lesson
Learn Bitcoin because it's incredibly important. Then, use your skills to work for Bitcoin; that's the next best thing for creatives.
This experience showed me firsthand how Bitcoin creates real opportunities, especially in Africa. Grateful to Bitcoin Africa Story for opening this door.
